Na última segunda-feira (6), faleceu o cantor Antônio Tadeu Tavares, mais conhecido como Tadeu de Obatalá. Tadeu foi integrante do primeiro bloco afro do Maranhão, o Akomabu, que em iorubá significa “a cultura afro não deve morrer”. O Akomabu foi criado em 3 de março de 1984 como um instrumento de luta do Centro de Cultura Negra do Maranhão no combate à discriminação racial, por meio da preservação e valorização da riqueza cultural do povo negro.
Além do Akomabu, Tadeu de Obatalá foi um dos integrantes fundadores da banda Guetos, criada em 1993, que militou com vários estilos: jazz, blues, tambor de crioula, mina, Bumba meu boi e o reggae, que foi o estilo que mais se sobressaiu.
Tadeu faleceu aos 60 anos na madrugada de segunda-feira em virtude de um infarto. Nos anos 90, tive a honra de entrevistar o artista quando ele divulgava o primeiro trabalho da banda Guetos. Meu último encontro com Tadeu de Obatalá foi em 2023. Aqui está o registro do nosso último bate-papo.
English — The Maranhense reggae is in mourning
Last Monday (6), singer Antônio Tadeu Tavares, better known as Tadeu de Obatalá, passed away. Tadeu was a member of the first Afro block in Maranhão, the Akomabu, which in Yoruba means “Afro culture must not die”. Akomabu was created on March 3, 1984, as a tool for the fight of the Center of Black Culture of Maranhão against racial discrimination, through the preservation and valorization of the cultural richness of the black people.
In addition to Akomabu, Tadeu de Obatalá was one of the founding members of the band Guetos, created in 1993, which militated with various styles: jazz, blues, tambor de crioula, mina, Bumba meu boi, and reggae, which was the style that stood out the most.
